The Testing Lady: Hawaii Testing Information

Dear Parents,                                                                                                                           January 2010

Testing in Hawaii has been a great success and I have been requested to test there again this year.  It actually has been so successful that for a second year, I need to bring my assistants, Sherry and Renee, to help me with the testing.  Please rest assured if you are scheduled to test with Sherry or Renee, you will be getting the same excellent service that you would be getting from me.  Since all of us can test at the same time, this will give more flexibility to families with multiple children.

In Hawaii, as throughout the country, more and more parents are pulling their special needs children out of public schools.  I have tested increasing numbers of special needs students in Hawaii each year.  Let me say up front that I do not mind working with these kids in the least; however, I am not certified in special needs.  My knowledge has come from my own personal experience, teaching my own children who have special needs, and testing kids with unique needs every year.  I recognize that some families have students that I believe need more specialized experience and training, so this year Judi Munday will be partnering with us.  Judi has 30 years of experience working with children with special needs and their families.  Judi is a certified teacher with Endorsements in Learning Disabilities K-12, and she has two Masters Degrees in Special Education.  Through her diagnostic and prescriptive testing, she can help you use your child’s test data to develop more effective and appropriate teaching strategies.  If you would like more information about this, you can visit her website - www.helpinschool.net.  You can call her toll free if you have any questions at 877-418-6264.

Individual Tests – My cohorts and I will conduct private tests from March 9 – 25.  A limited number of  testing slots are available, so I encourage you to reserve your testing appointments as soon as possible by mailing your registration and the non-refundable $25 deposit to Michelle Thompson (4672 Lexington Blvd., Honolulu, HI 96818).  Please make your checks payable to Michelle.  No appointments will be scheduled without a deposit.  A $20.00 late fee will be added to the total cost of testing if your deposit is not postmarked before February 15.   No calculators will be allowed during these tests.

NEW THIS YEAR – IOWA TEST OF BASIC SKILLS GROUP TESTING!!!!!

This year we will be offering a 2-day group testing of the Iowa Test of Basic Skills for grades 3-12.  The students must attend both days.  The cost includes the test, proctoring, and scoring fees.  Due to scheduling, if you choose to have Science & Social Studies tested (not a requirement for testing), there is an additional $10 fee per student in grades 3-8, but no additional fee for high school students.  No other costs, fees, or responsibilities are yours except to make sure that the child gets to the testing site on time with paper and pencils in handNo calculators will be allowed during these tests.

If you change your appointment after you have received confirmation, there will be a rescheduling fee of $15 per person. The $25 non-refundable deposit must be received to schedule a test, and the $15 fee for rescheduling the appointment.

Michelle will coordinate ALL of the scheduling, so you will need to be specific about whether you want Judi’s services for private testing and consultations or my group or private testing.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Michelle at (808) 271-5960, Sarah at (757) 456-9659, or Judi at   (877) 418-6264.  (Remember that Judi and I live in Virginia so please do not call us after 5 pm your time.)   If we do not answer, please leave a message on the answering machine and we will return your call as soon as possible.  We may be speaking with someone else about testing, and we want to give you the same undivided attention that we are giving them.

I am looking forward to working with you and your children this year.  And thanks, Michelle, for hosting us again this year and for all your help!

Sincerely,

 Sarah R. Olbris

P.S.  Just a reminder – Parents, you are responsible to send in your children’s test scores to the appropriate school system.  I will not send test scores to anyone but you.
